TIA | The Insurance Apprentice

Inspiring the future of insurance

What happens when the future of the industry depends, in part, on inspiring the next generation?

This week’s episode focuses on inspiring youth to see insurance as a career of purpose, impact, and opportunity.

Insurance has a story to tell – but can our contestants make the next generation want to listen?

A glimpse behind the scenes
Before diving into this week’s challenge, the contestants were treated to a welcome dinner hosted by Bryte Insurance, setting the stage for meaningful connections. Thank you, Bryte Insurance.

Filming continues at the impressive Old Mutual Sandton building, while Standard Bank Insurance Brokers provides comfortable accommodation for the contestants and judges throughout the duration of the competition, ensuring everyone is well-rested and ready to perform.

Bringing young talent into the industry
There is a critical issue impacting the insurance industry: a shortage of skilled professionals in key roles.

Without fresh talent, the industry risks stagnation at a time when adaptability and innovation are more important than ever.

Episode 3 task summary
In episode three, sponsored by Inseta, the contestants are divided into two teams and given a creative, high-energy brief: to craft an engaging presentation aimed at 18-20-year-olds. Their mission? Shine a spotlight on two critical, scarce skills roles within the insurance industry, illustrating their significance, career prospects, and impact. The twist? Traditional slideshows were off the table, pushing contestants to use innovative storytelling techniques to captivate their audience.

But there was an added surprise. While contestants presented live, their audience of 18-year-old judges provided immediate reactions, as the professional judging panel – Simon Colman (head judge and CEO of The Liability Company), Nox Dlamini (co-judge), and Gugu Mkhize (CEO of INSETA) – observed remotely, evaluating every move.

The judging criteria for this challenge were tough, focusing on how well contestants engaged their young audience, demonstrated creativity, ensured relevance and relatability, and conveyed the importance of the roles they presented.

With the clock ticking and stakes high, tensions ran high as contestants prepared to present in a format designed to challenge their adaptability and creativity. Who will spark a passion for insurance careers and prove they have what it takes to inspire future talent? Who will shine, and who will stumble under the pressure?
