TIA | The Insurance Apprentice

Season 3, Episode 5

Sponsored by Hollard

Sharing is caring

Episode five, task four, was sponsored by Hollard. This task was mainly touching on the concept of shared economy, and the apprentices had to come up with an innovative insurance solution for insuring assets being transported in ships, trucks and aeroplanes with spare capacity. So it’s normally a spot going empty, but the load will be shared with others also transporting their own goods. Who insures what, what if there’s no insurance and what is the liability around the whole shared economy concept?

Benji Coetzee from Empty Trips explained her business to the apprentices and after that Gareth Joubert from Hollard, who built his career around creating new businesses, tasked the apprentices to design an insurance solution for a company like Empty Trips. All the factors around insurability, self-insurance etc had to be taken into account.

Phone an apprentice

One of the options the apprentices had throughout the show was to phone a previous apprentice if they felt that they needed some guidance in a specific task. Both groups used their option in this task.

The ultimate prize

The winner of The Insurance Apprentice 2017 wins a trip to Lloyds of London, sponsored by Lloyds of London and a bursary, sponsored by Inseta, to further their studies.
